“A cohesive chronicle of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., offering illuminating perspectives and personal stories of how the catastrophic events of that day changed the course of the nation. From the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 to the country’s breathtaking collapse back into the hands of the Taliban just weeks before the twentieth anniversary of the attacks, history continues to be made.”

The Spokane Productions Studio hosted an interview with Ryan Crocker (former Ambassador to Afghanistan for the United States) for the Los Angeles based production company Luminant Media on behalf of Netflix. The Director of Photography for the project was Scott Sinkler, an award winning producer from New York and the series was directed by Brian Knappenberger with Composer John Dragonetti providing the musical score. We provided facilitation of the grip and lighting rental, assisted with the studio lighting and backdrop setup, and provided general production assistance for Scott and the film crew. They used a combination of Arri and Red cameras and Sigma Cinema Art Primes for the production. It was an honor to meet Ryan Crocker and his knowlege of international relations, terrorism, and the underlying causes for 9-11 was incredible to witness as he spoke about the events that transpired. It is clear why he played such a pivotal role in the War on Terror as the Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2011-2012 and he provided more stories and content than could have possibly been used in the episode. It was very interesting to listen to him discuss his experience and we were honored to have him in the studio!

Episode 4 “The Good War” (S1E4) was released on Netflix on Sept 1, 2021 just ahead of the 20 year anniversary of 9-11. It continues to earn positive reviews and maintains an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of this article.

With no cohesive strategy, the war in Afghanistan squanders early successes and backfires, fueling disillusionment, corruption and a Taliban resurgence.
