We recently completed the work of building out a fully custom production & recording studio in Post Falls, Idaho and we are excited to officially be open! We took all of the positive design elements of the former studio and put them into the new one, improving each part of the process. When searching for a new location for the studio, we had several requirements;
- Acoustically sound building
- Convenient location for clients
- The ability to build a custom studio space
- Produce a beautiful and inviting design for the studio rooms
The building at 5380 E Seltice Way, Suite A fit all of these requirements perfectly. A fully concrete exterior (both walls and roof!) was ideal for room acoustics while capturing audio in the recording studio. It also has a cool “retro” look on the outside. When we started, the space had been used as office space with a drop ceiling and a large open area in the back. Here is what it looked like before the remodel:

Below is the same view during construction of the green screen wall (left) and white cyclorama wall on the right side. We built the curve on both the upper and lower parts of the walls to allow for more flexibility of camera positions:

And the completed space today with green screen and white cyc wall:

Looking the other way, we started with an open area with a drop ceiling. Here is the “before” photo:

Here is the space after the remodel, featuring a modern fireplace with stone backdrop, solid wood mantle made from reclaimed North Idaho blued-pine, and cedar accents on the walls. A massive quadruple-pane glass bay window looks into the control room:

The control room began as a small 8×10 office, and with the suspended ceiling removed and walls taken down the space opened up to a perfect size for audio engineers to record, mix, and master music.

We designed the new control room with asymmetrical walls and a sloped ceiling to prevent “standing waves” in the space. The colors were chosen as a throwback to the classic recording studios of the 1960’s and 1970’s including natural wood accents paired with orange laminate for counter tops and control room desks and mixing console workspace. The Video Editing desk includes a color-calibrated Benq video monitor and Tannoy 8″ monitors for listening. A cushy yellow couch is there for listening to the mix from the main speakers.

The Audio Control Room desk in the studio includes an overhead soffit for the large Rodgers 3-way Mixing speakers, a pair of Bowers & Wilkins 802 Series 80 Mastering Speakers on the floor, and nearfields by JBL for flat EQ listening.

The Audio Recording room and Vocal Isolation Booth is acoustically treated with three layers of separation from the outside world (concrete building, enclosed room with gabled ceiling & cedar wood wall treatments, and separate modular padded inner wall booth) making it one of the quietest rooms in the Northwest for recording audio. It’s great for podcasts, audiobooks, television narration, radio commercials, vocals, and any other type of audio recording.
